Port Angeles, Washington, March 16, 2015 (McKenzieNewsService.com) - The Kayak & Film Festival (www.portangeleskayakandfilm.com), where sea, lake, river and surf paddling converge, returns to Port Angeles for a second year on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19 at Hollywood Beach, Port Angeles, WA. The event, which drew hundreds of novice to expert paddlers in its inaugural year, will offer an expanded line-up of on-the-water and dry land classes taught by nine experts specializing in all genres of kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding (SUP). New this year, the Olympic Peninsula Paddlers, Port Angeles’ Kayak Club, will lead a Sunday morning paddling excursion exploring the sights and sounds of Port Angeles Harbor. An enlarged Demo Beach will feature a variety of kayak models for visitors to test drive, with special discounts on purchases.

Kayak and SUP classes will be offered from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Advance registration is highly recommended.

“We are so pleased to bring an event of this caliber to Port Angeles for a second year,” says Tammi Hinkle, owner of Adventures Through Kayaking, one of three local co-organizers of the Festival. “It’s truly a one-of-a-kind event; no other festival in the country highlights and promotes all classes of paddling. Participants can take an Eskimo rolling class, get educated on tides and currents, learn how to land their craft in surf, experience stand-up paddle boarding and much more.”

“The best part,” Hinkle continues, “is that almost anyone can participate. The Festival is open to all levels and all ages. It’s a community event that we hope anyone with an interest will come out and enjoy.”

The corresponding Film Festival will open with a keynote presentation by Ken Campbell, professional kayaker and co-founder of the Ikkatsu Project, an initiative to raise awareness of the impact that toxic pollutants are having on beaches and shorelines through print, films and data-gathering expeditions. The presentation will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 18 at Peninsula College’s Maier Performance Hall. Admission is free. Afterwards, Campbell will present "Message in a Plastic Bottle," the Ikkatsu Project’s third film, which chronicles his 150-mile journey from Olympia to Bellingham aboard the Hyas yiem, a kayak constructed of discarded single-use plastic bottles. His adventure reveals the effect that plastic is having on the world’s oceans, as well as its impact on local Cascadian waters.

Test Drive a Kayak at the Demo Beach
Festival-goers can test the comfort, handling and capabilities of a larger variety of kayak models at the Demo Beach on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Pick them up, test their weight, check out the quality of construction and learn firsthand about all the different designs and materials. It’s a rare opportunity to demo so many different kayaks and accessories in one place. Special pricing will be available throughout the festival.

Poker Run
In this fun new event players will receive one card for each class registration and one card for trying kayaks at the Demo Beach. Cards can be traded for a “price.” The best hands will win great prizes, including kayak trips, rentals and a variety of paddling gear/equipment from the manufacturers.
