American Philharmonic Sonoma County to Premiere Two Latin American Works, Santa Rosa, March 15 and 16

Santa Rosa, California (February 21, 2014) - The American Philharmonic Sonoma County will present the American premiere of works by two of Latin America's leading composers in a March 15 and 16, 2014 concert set entitled "From the New World."

Concertino for Orchestra is by the prolific Colombian composer Blás Emilio Artehortúa. Artehortúa, whose works are now performed worldwide, is currently composer-in-residence at the National Network of Youth Orchestras of Venezuela, or “El Sistema.”

Concerto for Clarinet and Strings is by the contemporary Costa Rican composer, Carlos Escalante.  The piece will feature the Costa Rican clarinetist Ana Catalina Ramírez, who won the Costa Rican Young Soloist Competition twice and has performed around the world. Later this year she will record the concerto with the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica.

The concert concludes with Dvořák's beloved Symphony No. 9, "From the New World."

The American Philharmonic Sonoma County, conducted by Norman Gamboa, is a 65-member orchestra made up of professional-level musicians who volunteer their talents to reach an audience of people who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience a live orchestra. Dedicated to bringing people who love to play classical music together with those who love to listen to it, the orchestra has presented over 100 affordable concerts in Sonoma County over the past 15 years.

The upcoming concerts will be held on March 15 at 8:00 pm and March 16 at 2:00 pm at the Santa Rosa High School Performing Arts Auditorium. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit
