From large traditional homes constructed in the 1920’s to those built in the past decade, together they provide visitors with varying styles of architecture, décor and a taste of what makes Bexley a fascinating city in which to live or visit.

Bexley, Ohio, May 13, 2014 (McKenzieNewsService.com) - The 7th annual Bexley House & Garden Tour will be powered by Bexley Women’s Club on June 7 & 8, 2014, featuring nine unique homes and gardens located throughout the charming City of Bexley, Ohio. From large traditional homes constructed in the 1920’s to those built in the past decade, together they provide visitors with varying styles of architecture, décor and a taste of what makes Bexley a fascinating city in which to live or visit.

Originally begun in 2008, the proceeds of the tour support the Club’s scholarship program, which provides scholarships to high school seniors who reside in Bexley. Over the past 70+ years, the Bexley Women’s Club has supported more than 800 students with nearly $500,000 in scholarships. Each year one home is selected as the "Scholarship Home” and current and past scholarship recipients along with their families volunteer to staff the home during the tour.

Highlights of the homes on the 2014 tour include a Spanish style home with Moorish arches and original iron sconces and chandeliers along with an intricate tile floor; a 1922 era home that has been totally renovated from top to bottom in 2013; one homeowner’s eclectic collections from carnival kewpie dolls and walking sticks to 1950’s metal dollhouses; a home constructed in 2005 that features a large formal entry hall along with amazing black walnut floors, cherry paneling and cabinetry; a “repurposed” garden featuring sections created with what the homeowner describes as “curbside décor;” and four other exciting  locations.

The weekend kicks off with a Preview Tour and Party on Saturday, June 7th from 4:00 – 6:30pm. Tour guests may visit all nine sites with the opportunity to view areas of some homes that will not be showcased on the Sunday tour day. Following this early peek at the homes and gardens guests will then celebrate from 6:30 – 9:00pm under a large tent at Columbus School for Girls, 56 South Columbia Avenue, Bexley, OH 43209. This highly anticipated annual party allows guests to sample “tastes of their best” from favorite Columbus area eating establishments, live music and a cash bar. The addition of an exciting raffle this year allows those purchasing tickets to select the raffle prize for which they yearn.

On Sunday, June 8, 10am – 4:00pm, the streets of Bexley will have hundreds of visitors who not only enjoy the nine highlighted locations on the tour but also savor the many beautifully landscaped homes on a relaxed journey through Bexley. Take advantage of free shuttle service via The Bexley Beat bus to access all locations, bike from place to place or enjoy the option of traveling at your own pace with your own vehicle. On-street parking is available throughout the tour route. Volunteers are stationed at each site to provide interesting highlights provided personally by the homeowners.

An extensive list of area restaurants may be accessed at
www.urbanspoon.com/n/33/3200/Columbus/Bexley-restaurants. Allow time to enjoy some local fare or stop by one of the food carts or trucks that will be stationed along the tour route. These locations will be highlighted on the map that will be provided in the tour book distributed to each visitor.
