Getdown - Chowdown - Throwdown at the Blues Views & BBQ Fest, Westport, CT

“We are really excited about this year’s line-up,” says Bob.  “We are once again featuring a heavy New Orleans/Jazz Fest influence on Saturday and kick-butt Blues all day Sunday in the Levitt Pavilion.  We expect another sell-out, so I hope everyone takes advantage of the advanced ticket sales. And we are also excited about the great line up of Connecticut musicians on our second stage in the JESUP JAM area. There’s going to be great music throughout the whole Festival.”

Thumbs-up girl - delicious food is an important part of the Festival: BBQ, melted cheese, tuna tacos, lobster rolls, goat curry...and more.

Westport, Connecticut, August 18, 2015 - It’s been eight years since Bob LeRose, owner of Bobby Q’s Barbeque & Grill, and then President of the Westport Downtown Merchants Association (WDMA), got the idea to combine his love of great music and great food into a rousing weekend-long event that has since been enjoyed by tens of thousands looking for smoking' music, great food and family fun.

The 8th annual Blues, Views & BBQ Festival will be held on September 5 & 6 at Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts/Westport Library/Imperial Ave. (commuter lot),
Jesup Road, Westport, CT. Times are Saturday, September 5, 11:00 am – 10:00 pm; Sunday, September 6, 11:00 am – 9:00 pm.

Getdown at the Festival’s venue inside the Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts with performances by some of the best blues, soul, rock and funk artists in the business: Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Joe Louis Walker, Anders Osborne, Matt Schofield, Dumpstaphunk, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Honey Island Swamp Band, Sugar Blue, Billy Luso & Restless Natives, Alexis P. Suter, Relative Souls, Mark Naftalin, and School of Rock.

A second stage in the Westport Library parking lot will feature a CT-musician showcase with performances by Dan Stevens, Randy Brody’s Drum Circle, Jake Kulak and the Lowdown, Jim Malone and the Piney Hearts, Boogie Boys and the Funky Dawgz Brass Band and multiple bands from the School of Rock.

Chowdown throughout the Festival on delicious wood-fired, grilled and roasted food; Bobby Q’s famous ribs, pulled pork and brisket, Blue Lemon’s delectable lobster rolls, roasted corn, sausage, and tuna tacos; spicy fish, chicken and goat from Winnie’s Jerk, Melt Mobile’s gooey, melty sandwich offerings, Festival favorites from Dave & Jerry’s Hot Dog Trolley, and fun snacks from Kettle Corn, Rita’s Ice and Rolling Cones.  Take home goodies from vendors in the BBQ Marketplace. Craft brews, wine and handcrafted spirits will also be available.

Throwdown and learn some ‘Q techniques – and maybe get some tastes – from the pit masters as they compete in the Kansas City BBQ Society “Cookin’ for a Cause” barbeque competition. Proceeds from the competition benefit the Westport Woman’s Club Food Closet. Or be a judge at the People’s Choice Wing Contest, sponsored by Whole Foods – Westport.  Participating teams will prepare wings to be judged by the people.  $5 judge’s fee.

There will be activities for every age; chef demos presented by CT Bites, pie and rib eating contests, bouncy amusements, bull riding, kids’ activities, and the Westport Library will bring the Mobile Maker Space for Robotics, and 3d Printing.

Westport may seem an unlikely place for a down-home Blues and BBQ festival – but it struck the right note eight years ago, and continues to offer something for every music aficionado, food fanatic, and fun-seeker.
