Bluff City Theater presents Tony-awarding winning play The Heiress to open Summer Season, Hannibal, MO

Hannibal, Missouri, May 20, 2015 - Based on the Henry James novel Washington Square, Ruth and Augustus Goetz’ period drama The Heiress explores timeless themes of parental autocracy, personal independence and the nature of love. The Heiress opened in NYC in 1947 and ran for 410 performances before moving to London’s West End where it ran for 600 more.  Twice revived on Broadway, the 1999 production won three Tony’s including best revival of a play.  In this new professional production, director Jennifer Stewart brings the play to Bluff City Theater’s intimate 90-seat main stage for an unforgettable experience.

The story is of a young girl, Catherine Sloper- shy, unsophisticated and plain-looking but born to a life of wealth. When a handsome young man comes courting, she is swept off her feet and promises to elope, despite her father’s threats to cut off her inheritance. When the young man jilts her, Catherine is devastated but her father feels vindicated.

The play runs from June 19th through July 30th, 2015. Bluff City Theater is located at 212 Broadway Avenue, Hannibal MO.
Tickets are $24.75 each. 4-Ticket Flex-passes are $89 (any combination of 4 tickets). Group rates available.
