Boston, Massachusetts, June 9, 2014 (McKenzie News Service) - The Sustainable Business Network of Massachusetts (SBN) has announced that the 5th Annual Boston Local Food Festival will take place Sunday, September 14, 2014, 11AM- 5PM at the Rose Kennedy Greenway, Atlantic Avenue, Boston.

This free outdoor event features local restaurants, farms, fishers, specialty food producers, food trucks, and food and fitness-related organizations. The Boston Local Food Festival is intended to bring healthy, local food for all by introducing 25,000 hungry Bostonians to their local food producers selling plates all under $6.00, offering educational exhibits, and more. This festival will be complete with a seafood throwdown, the Kid’s Zone, and live musical performances.

Festival goers learn about the benefits of sustainably grown and produced food, shop the market, eat delicious local food, participate in fun, educational activities and exhibits, engage with top local chefs and enjoy local music. Themed “Healthy Local Food for All,” the festival connects Massachusetts and New England eaters of all backgrounds with the abundance of fresh, nutritious local food choices available close to home.

The festival is a zero-waste event, meaning they divert over 91% of their waste each year and offset 100% of their energy use. All perishable items sold are made from locally sourced products.

The goal of the Boston Local Food Program is to transform the local food system by encouraging individual consumers, food and beverage producers, and vendors to Think Local First. The festival sponsors are Edible Boston, Yelp, Food Service East, Balanced Rock, Longfellow Clubs, Northeast Flavor, Eastern Bank, and Boston Organics.
