Holiday Train Expo 2014 Coming to Wilmington, NC

Wilmington, North Carolina, November 20, 2014 (McKenzieNewsService.com) - The Cape Fear Model Rail Railroad Society announces their Holiday Train Expo 2014 will be held at 705 S. Kerr Ave., Wilmington, NC (next door to the Goodwill) beginning Friday, November 28th and running through Sunday, December 28th. The Expo will take place on Fridays from 6-9pm and Saturday and Sundays from 1-6 pm.  This event will showcase a series of spectacular holiday villages filled with model trains of all kinds running the rail across a 6000 sq. ft. exhibit space.

Originating during the Christmas season at Airlie Gardens, the memorable showcase of model trains and elaborate scenery still draws families, train enthusiasts and holiday-goers from around the region each year.

Visitors will be enchanted by this spectacular display of model trains as they travel across miles of scale track through a wonderland of villages, parks and landscapes. In addition to the G Scale (garden railroad) exhibits of the past, they have added a replica of the Star Way Drive- In theatre showing the Polar Express. This year's exhibition also includes a newly designed O Gauge Polar Express layout featuring many of the scenes in the Tom Hanks movie carefully brought to life.  The traditional Lionel layout is full of many interactive accessories which will delight children of all ages. A new larger HO Gauge layout has been constructed featuring trains hauling over 100 cars. Another new layout is OO gauge, the British equivalent to HO, which is seldom seen in the USA.

"All of the model trains, some buildings and scenery are supplied by our members," said Eddie Richard, president of the Cape Fear Model Railroad Society.  "We've already started setting up our exhibits.  It takes hundreds of man-hours to put a show of this size together.  It's our passion and we love being able to share it with so many people during the Christmas season."

The Cape Fear Model Railroad Society will also be raffling off two model train sets at the show, just in time for Christmas - a HO Gauge and O Gauge train set.  People can buy raffle tickets for $1 each or 6 for $5.

Thousands of people are expected to take in the train expo over its four week run.

Admission is $4 and $3 for children ages 3 to 17.  Children under the age of 2 are admitted free.
