Cumberland Arts Goes to Market - Arts and Crafts Festival Celebrates Indiana Bicentennial, Cumberland, IN

 

Cumberland Arts, Inc. of Cumberland First Baptist Church exists to promote the appreciation of and participation in the arts within and beyond the Cumberland community. The 8th annual Cumberland Arts Goes to Market will include a Celebration of the 2016 Indiana Bicentennial.

 

 

Cumberland, Indiana, August 1, 2016 - The 8th Annual Arts and Crafts Festival with the Town of Cumberland Farmers Market will be held Saturday, August 20, 2016, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Saturn Street at Cumberland Town Hall, 11501 E. Washington Street, Cumberland, IN 46229.  Free admission, free parking and handicapped accessible.
 
Visitors can shop at 90 plus art, craft and farmers market vendors.  See seven history stations highlighting Indiana heritage.  Hear Sally Perkins, celebrated storyteller with Storytelling Arts of Indiana, weave a fascinating tale of Cumberland history with a local tie to John Dillinger. The first 300 people to visit all stations will receive a festival keepsake. 
 
There will be Civil War period dancing hoop skirts and all - with music by the Irish Airs.  Food trucks and food vendors will be on site including J. Evelyn Confections, Greenfield, with a specially created Bicentennial candy "Sweet Corn Caramels."
 
Entertainment includes Haley Jonay, AngiCat of Silly Safaris, Hearts Ablaze Cloggers and Indianapolis Liederkranz German Brass Band. 
Silent auction.  Children activities will be available at the history stations. All ages will enjoy this event.
 
Two special features will highlight the past and the future of Cumberland: Historic pioneer cemetery will be the site of a special 10 a.m. ceremony. Unidentified bones unearthed many years ago will be reinterred to burial grounds.  A 2066 Time Capsule, containing written messages of festival visitors with hopes and dreams for the future, will be buried at 3:30 p.m.
