Edmonds, Washington, May 29, 2014 (McKenzieNewsService.com) - The 57th Annual Edmonds Arts Festival kicks off at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 13 and runs through Sunday evening June 15, at the Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main Street, Edmonds, WA. The Festival is filled with fun for all ages and includes art, entertainment, food vendors, a Student Art Exhibit and Kids Create area. There is no admission charge for this popular three-day event.

More than 200 artist-exhibitors display and sell fine arts and crafts on the grassy field, East of the Frances Anderson Center and on the Plaza above the Edmonds Library. Skilled artists from the Western states and Canada are carefully selected in mediums including jewelry, painting, photography, ceramics, glassblowing, and more. Inside the Center, three galleries showcase juried fine art and artisans’ works from more than 200 artists. All art inside the galleries is offered for sale.

The Edmonds Arts Festival is one of the pioneers in displaying the work of student artists. Don’t miss the exhibit of more than 1,000 pieces of art from K-12 students residing within the boundaries of the Edmonds School District.  The Student Art Exhibit is located on the lower level of the Center.

For years, the Edmonds Arts Festival has delighted Festival-goers at their outdoor amphitheater with a wide variety of performances including music, dance, and theater.  Performances at the 2014 Festival will include well-known local and regional bands performing original and cover pop, rock, blues, world, folk, indie, and alternative music.  Featured bands include the Stacy Jones Band, Easy Company Band, The Side Project, Nick Drummond & Friends, Reggie Garrett & The Snake Oil Peddlers, the Winterlings, Kitt Bender Trio, and the Adrian Xavier Band.  In addition, local youth groups and performers, several of them award-winning, will be performing from Edmonds-Woodway High School, Meadowdale Middle and Elementary Schools, Madrona K-8, and the Barclay Shelton Dance Center.  Music types will include jazz, choir, band, orchestra, and marimba from local students.

As in previous years, there will be the varied assortment of highly anticipated food choices.  The Festival is pleased to announce that four out of the twenty-two vendors hail directly from the Edmonds community. You can support these local vendors by stopping by for a cup of coffee and baked goods from Walnut Café, delicious tacos or sliders from Here and There, and the always-popular salmon caesar offering from Scotty’s. Epulo will be serving wine, beer and snacks in the Grotto on the Plaza level.

Kids Create is in a new location in the southwest corner of the Artists Plaza, above the Edmonds Library.  Kids Create provides children with art enrichment activities and hands-on experiences. Kids will have the opportunity to participate in Pacific Northwest Beach projects that include Puget Sound sea sculpture, sea-life sand painting, salmon printmaking, metal totem art projects, and totem circles. Young artists will collaborate in painting a mural of sea life during the Festival. Art Wise Northwest of Edmonds helped develop these age-appropriate art projects for this year’s activities.

The 2014 Festival poster features a view of the Edmonds Marina at sunset by Edmonds artist David Marty. David will display his paintings inside the Center in the Museum Gallery and will be in booth 110 on the field. Festival posters will be for sale in the Festival Store for $20 for the large 18 x 24 poster, and $10 for the 11 x 14 size. In addition to coasters, calendars and cards featuring the image, Festival logo T-shirts, jackets, and other items will also be sold.

Free shuttle parking for the Festival is available at the old Woodway High School site, 23200 100th Ave. West, Edmonds and at the Port of Edmonds on Admiral Way. See the Festival website for directions and maps. A shuttle will also meet the Edmonds ferry during Festival hours to take walk-on passengers directly to the Festival site. Handicapped parking is limited, but available on the perimeter of the Festival along Main or Dayton Streets and also in the library parking lot. The shuttles are busses or vans and are not wheelchair accessible. The Festival is held in a city park and per Municipal Code 5.05.060, only service animals are allowed on Festival grounds.
