Gateway gives opportunities for experience and exposure to outstanding instrumental and vocal soloists from all over the world.  The Gateway Orchestra is a professional orchestra and member of the League of American Orchestras. It comprises former members of orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic and other well-known orchestras, as well as young freelance musicians who play with various orchestras and perform as soloists and in chamber music ensembles nationally and internationally.

2014 is the tenth anniversary year of Gateway.  Gateway Classical Music Society is an organization dedicated to bringing the thrill of great classical music performances to audiences in city and suburban neighborhoods everywhere - not just in the rarified precincts of large metropolitan concert halls, but in houses of worship, theaters and other intimate settings. Its aim is to make classical music works of art more accessible to the public at large. Under the leadership of Artistic Director and Conductor Ida Angland, Gateway, in celebration of this milestone, will be expanding to include Ridgewood in its performances of masterworks with the Gateway Orchestra. Ida Angland is one of only a few American women conductors who consistently program and conduct masterworks that are among the most difficult in the repertoire.

About Gateway Classical Music Society:
Gateway is one of few music organizations to embrace “masterworks” that encompass all categories of classical music (symphony, opera, oratorio, ballet) allowing  varying and limitless performance options and opportunities for artists. The greater intimacy of many of Gateway’s performances yield an emotionally heightened listening experience. Gateway is among the few organizations of its type to recognize the need for and provide bridge opportunities for exposure and experience to young artists between formal music training and a professional career. Gateway provides free tickets to economically challenged senior citizens and to schools. Gateway is launching  Ambassadors for Masterworks - a program to present its Great Works of Art orchestra performances to underserved neighborhoods free of charge. Gateway was founded by an American woman conductor who has produced and conducted what are among the largest and most difficult of masterworks, formerly, and still overwhelmingly, conducted principally by male conductors.
