4th Annual Riverside Blues & BBQ Festival to be held in Greenfield, MA, October 11th & 12th

 

Experience a one of a kind festival with professional BBQ, Live Blues Music, Local and National Craft Brews, Contests, Vendors, and more. This festival is a fundraising event for the Greenfield Recreation Department. Funds help support programs and events for families within the Greenfield community.

Greenfield, Massachusetts - The Riverside Blues & BBQ Festival, held in the heart of Franklin County, under the iconic Poet’s Seat Tower, returns for its 4th year on Saturday & Sunday, October 11th & 12th. “We love to showcase one of the gems of Greenfield - Beacon Park. It is a wonderful place to hold a festival, with the surrounding mountains and Poet Seat Tower standing above,” says Christy Moore, Recreation Director for the City of Greenfield and Event Organizer. “It is especially beautiful at this time of year with all of the changing foliage.”

 

The Riverside Blues & BBQ Festival is hosted by the Franklin County Rotary Club and Lefty’s Brewing Company in conjunction with the Greenfield Recreation Department. Many local businesses also sponsor and support this community event. This multi-day festival features a New England Barbecue Society Grilling Contest, a Kansas City Barbeque Society BBQ Contest, a BrewFest Samplin’ Saloon on Saturday, Lefty’s Brewing Company Saloon on Sunday, live blues music, a People’s Choice BBQ Samplin’ Pit, kids activities, vendors, contests, and more.

 

The Riverside Blues & BBQ Cook-off is sanctioned by the New England Barbecue Society and Kansas City Barbeque Society. KCBS is the world's largest organization of barbeque and grilling enthusiasts with over 10,000 members worldwide. KCBS sanctions almost 300 barbeque contests coast-to-coast throughout America, where competitions for barbequed chicken, ribs, pork and brisket are served up and judged by Certified Barbeque Judges. Competitors from all over the region will be vying for $5,500 in prize money!

“The People’s Choice Samplin’ Pit is back by popular demand,” asserts Moore, and will feature professional BBQ contestants’ submissions of chicken wings on Saturday and pulled pork on Sunday." The tent on both days will be open from 12 noon until the food runs out. Tickets for the People’s Choice Samplin’ Pit can be purchased at the tent, $5 for 6 tickets. Specialty food booths will also be at the festival to offer additional food options to festival patrons.

 

Another highlight of the festival is Saturday’s BrewFest Beer Samplin’ Saloon. The saloon will be open Saturday only from 1:00pm-5:00pm. There will be hundreds of beers to sample from both local and national breweries. Curious Traveler Shandy will be offering free mustache rides on their mustache see saw. There is a $20 Entrance Fee for the BrewFest Beer Samplin’ Saloon.

On Sunday, Greenfield’s very own Lefty’s Brewing Company will be on tap in the Lefty’s Brew Saloon from 1:00pm-5:00pm. They will have every flavor they have to offer on tap$3, ½ pints, $5 pints. Relax with a pint of Lefty's and BBQ on your plate. A dollar from all ½ pints and pints sold will go directly to the Recreation Department. Support your local craft brewery and your very own Recreation Department.

 

Contests will also be held throughout the weekend including a Samuel Adams Stein Hoisting Competition, Curious Traveler Shandy Mustache Contest, Table Talk Pie Eating Contest, a Lee Oskar Harp (Harmonica) Contest, Lefty’s Brewing Company Keg Toss, Lefty’s Brewing Company Barrel Roll, and more. “We are lucky enough to also be able to showcase some outstanding local and national blues musicians who will be playing live throughout the festival” Moore added. Saturday’s line-up includes the local Wildcat O’Halloran Band, Grammy Nominated Texas Singer Songwriter Randy McAllister, and local artist Ottomatic Slim. Sunday will feature Vermont blues sensation Dave Keller, local powerhouse Janet Ryan, and Eastern Massachusetts trio, Blue Cat Groove.

The Riverside Blues & BBQ Festival will be held rain or shine. The Festival will run on Saturday and Sunday, October 11 & 12 from 12 noon to 6 p.m.  Admission is $5 for adults. 10 and under are free with a paying adult. There are additional fees for Beer & BBQ Sampling. Free parking and shuttle service are available from the 48 Sanderson Street Lot (across from the Hospital) and at the Greenfield Middle School Lot. This festival is a fundraising event for the Greenfield Recreation Department. Funds help support programs and events for families within the Greenfield community.
