Free Family Fun at Marine Science Institute at Earth Day on the Bay, Redwood City, California

Redwood City, California (March 31, 2014) - The Marine Science Institute (MSI) is honoring Planet Earth with Earth Day on the Bay on Saturday, April 19, 2014 from 10 am - 5 pm. at 500 Discovery Pkwy, Redwood City, CA.

The all-day event
(admission is free) is meant to provide fun, safe, and special memories for the whole family. MSI provides hands-on adventures on the Bay where students can touch a shark, study plankton, and learn to care for the natural environment. The Institute is open to the public just once a year and they’ve made sure to bundle as much wonder, fun, and knowledge into a single day as possible.

Climb aboard the floating classroom for a two-hour exploration of the San Francisco Bay on the 90' research vessel Robert G. Brownlee ($40 for adults and $20 for children (5-12). After an introduction to this magical estuary, you can help set a net to sample what fish are swimming through the waters below. The crew will help you identify and even touch the fish you see. Then pull up a bottom sample and see what all that mud has hidden inside. Peer into the world of plankton, the engine that drives the whole ecosystem. Book in advance here.

Activities:

Touch live sharks, sea stars, flounders, anemones, and more.

Ocean critters arts & crafts
Translating the Tides’ contest winning youth art and poetry gallery
Beneath the Waves film festival
Hoyo Negro presentation by Bay Area Underwater Explorers
Live lunch entertainment courtesy of the marvelous Banana Slugs String Band
Curry Up Now and The Melt food trucks
