Northern California Pirate Festival: Mermaids and Pirates land in Vallejo, CA: June 18 and 19

Vallejo, California, June 13, 2016 - 5,000 pirates take over Vallejo Waterfront Park this weekend, June 18 and 19, for the tenth annual Northern California Pirate Festival. A colorful encampment of 200 tents, three stages, sword fights, black powder cannon battles, children’s pirate school and mermaid lagoon, the three acre festival is a pirate paradise for adults and children alike.

New this year the festival will offer a wide range of live music from acoustic sea shanties to driving pirate rock. Special guest Tom Lewis from Britain will be performing traditional and original nautical folk songs along with Marin county favorites Shark Alley Hobos. Skip Henderson and Starboard Watch, whose music is featured on Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean movie soundtrack, will also perform throughout the day along with Bay Area Celtic pirate rock band O’Craven.

Celebrating ten years in Vallejo next to the SF/Oakland ferry terminal, the festival includes a dedicated children’s area with zip lines, a 30’ slide The Kraken, puppet shows featuring elaborate leather tooled dragons, jumpies and a children’s costume contest at 3pm each day on the Treasure Island Stage. New this year is Under The Black Flag, an interactive children’s show where the audience becomes the actors complete with costumes and balloon swords.  In addition to nautically inspired handcrafts, fresh seafood and a waterfront rum bar, festivalgoers can meet mermaids swimming in the Siren’s Lagoon and witness the smoke and fire of black powder muskets and cannons booming as the Brotherhood of Oceanic Mercenaries (B.O.O.M.) return fire in the ship-to-shore cannon battle at 2pm along the waterfront.

Saturday night the festival hosts a separate ticketed event, The Buccaneers Bash, an 18+ only after hours show featuring Bunny Pistol’s Barbary Coast Burlesque, fire dancers and music.

General admission to the festival is $10.00. Children under 12 are free. The festival is open for one weekend only Saturday, June 18 and Father’s Day Sunday, June 19 from 10:00am to 6:00pm. Tickets are available at
www.norcalpiratefestival.com or at the entrance. Free street parking can be found nearby or at the Vallejo Ferry Terminal commuter lots or parking garage.
