LeMars, Iowa (February 5th, 2014) - For 39 years, the National Traditional Music Association has been hosting old-time music contests at their annual rural-lifestyle festival, held in LeMars, Iowa.  The event boasts seven days of old-time acoustic music (August 25-31, 2014) with no less than 650 performers.

According to the Association president, Bob Everhart, a Smithsonian Institution recording artist, "We have nine stages of professional entertainers, including celebrities, but the tenth stage is for music contests, from singing old-time songs to playing acoustic instruments.  There are individual contests that covers all the old time music instruments.  We don't promise the moon to contestants, and we don't make them rich, but developing talent has a chance to perform in front of a large appreciative audience.  This isn't a karaoke experience, this is an opportunity to see how you stand with professional judges."

There are acoustic contests for guitar, autoharp, dulcimers, harmonica, acoustic bass, fiddle, mandolin, piano, banjo (both tenor and 5-string), accordion, concertina, Dobro, and even the ukulele.  In the vocal department there are singing contests for soloists, harmony singers (two or more), even old-time bands.

"One of my favorites is the songwriting contests.  There's ribbons and prize money for every winner.  The festival lasts for seven days 9am-11pm every day, and we even have three hosted jamming areas,"  Everhart added.

RV camping with electrical hook-ups are also available.  More information at 712-249-5989.
