New York City, July 7, 2014 (McKenzieNewsService.com) - IMPACT, the Interactive Multimedia Performing Arts Collaborative Technology Conference held each Summer at New York University (NYU), presents a week-long series of multimedia concert performances of Franz Schubert's song cycle "Winterreise" from August 4th through 9th, at 8 PM, in the Black Box Theatre on 82 Washington Square East in New York City.

The New York Concert Opera performances, titled "Die Winterreise" and presented in the order of the original poems by Wilhelm Mueller, are sung by German-American baritone, Ulrich Hartung, and accompanied by a chamber ensemble consisting of piano, viola, cello, woodwind and brass players in an arrangement by Stefan Kozinski, a New York composer/conductor currently at Bremen Opera, who will be leading the ensemble. The dramatized performances are semi-staged with multimedia and presented in three parts lasting about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

It is commonly acknowledged that the poet's order provides a more dramatic, linear sequence to the "Winterreise" cycle, and the NY Concert Opera performances try to highlight that fact. The song cycle is to be presented in three parts - Past, Present, Future - with an instrumental introduction and interludes making the entire piece, an organic whole. The players will join the singer in dramatizing the songs, while images relevant to mood and themes are projected to make the event a multimedia experience.
