Step Back into a 1950s Christmas at the Park Forest House Museum

Park Forest, IL (November 20, 2013) - Take a break from the hustle and bustle of 21st Century holiday preparations to spend some time basking in holiday nostalgia at the Park Forest House Museum, from December 1 through January 2. The 1950s Park Forest House Museum, at 141 Forest Blvd, Park Forest, Illinois, invites you to "Step Back Into a 1950s Christmas." The museum is open Wednesdays and Saturdays 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; and by appointment. Admission for December is adults $3.00; 12 and under free. Operated by the Park Forest Historical Society.

Decorations are in every room, including a forest green, aluminum, rotating tree made by the C. Sincere Company, Gurley Candles and Rosbro figurines. Dolls, toys, and games bring back memories to share.

The Museum is in an original rental townhome, furnished from 1948-1953. Park Forest, the first fully-planned, post-World War II suburb, built to give preference to World War II veterans, was the subject of William H. Whyte's, Organization Man, and of Gregory Randall's, America's Original GI Town.

A visit is a great way to learn Park Forest's unique history. It is a nostalgic trip down memory lane for anyone who lived in the 1950s or 1960s, or for those interested in that period. A guide tells village history, and trends of the era. When is the last time you said, "Hello," to Howdy Doody? The museum is decorated seasonally. Closed in January, the Museum re-opens in February, decorated for a 1950s Valentines Day.
