“What’s Going On:” An Anthology of the Music of Marvin Gaye, Tralf Music Hall, Buffalo, NY, May 15

“This concept is unprecedented in the R&B genre; not even the original artists ever presented their songs live exactly as they were recorded with full instrumentation. We have brought together some of the finest vocalists and musicians from the region to bring Marvin Gaye’s music to life in the purest form possible,” said producer Carl Labate.

Buffalo, New York, May 4, 2015 (McKenzieNewsService.com) - Buffalo audiences will have a rare opportunity to enjoy an extraordinary evening of musical entertainment on May 15th when RnB Classics Live presents “What’s Going On:” An Anthology of the music of Marvin Gaye. The concert will be at the Tralf Music Hall, 622 Main St, Buffalo, NY at 7pm & 10pm (doors open at 6pm). The event was created by producer Carl Labate for the purpose of presenting an ongoing musical series of the greatest R&B Artist’s music live on stage exactly as they were recorded note for note.

Producer Carl Labate and Music Director Mike Van Allen have been planning this orchestral presentation for more than a year. The work of artist Marvin Gaye was chosen as the first concert in the series because of his standing as one of the most enduring American musicians of the Twentieth Century. Gaye had forty-seven (47) singles in the Billboard top 40 with 18 #1 hits including his unforgettable duets with vocalists Mary Wells, Kim Weston and Tammi Terrell. Gaye was born in 1939 and died from a fatal gunshot wound inflicted on him by his father in 1984. He has been posthumously honored by many institutions including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Marvin Gaye was a Motown star who challenged and changed the face of black music, embodying its evolution from roots in gospel, jazz and rhythm and blues to sophisticated pop and sexually, politically charged soul. “What’s Going On:” An Anthology of Marvin Gaye’s Music will capture the tone and texture of his career – one that still leaves an indelible mark on the musical landscape.
