Riverside Arts Weekend Returns to Riverside, IL, May 17 and 18

 









Riverside, Illinois (April 23, 2014) - The Riverside Arts Weekend will take place May 17th and 18th in Riverside, IL. This is the 7th year for this dynamic weekend of visual and performing arts. More than 70 juried artists from across the United States present their high-quality artworks including painting, sculpture, glass, ceramics, wood, fiber, jewelry and mixed media.
 
Performing artists entertain with jazz, blues, international sounds and a bit of rock - all under the trees.  Returning this year is Flicker, the cutting-edge one-of-a-kind experimental fashion show which highlights fashion as art. Stop by the Riverside Arts Center tent for a hands-on art adventure - hats as Wearable Sculpture, a hat-making extravaganza.  Check out the urban art installation at the entrance to the park.
 
Events occur in the center of Riverside in Guthrie Park, 90 Bloomingbank Road, next to the Metra train station, 10 miles west of Chicago.  Hours are Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday, from 10 am to 4 pm.  Free, hands-on art activities are hosted. Food and drink are available.

10-10:45 Hauser Junior High Jazz Band - Groovy kids, groovy music
11-12 The Buddy Love Review - So hip, so cool: Eclectic mix of acoustic, soul, R&B, pop, and jazz
12:15-1:15 Fable - Songs and stories from the 60s, 70s and beyond
1:30-2:30 The Liz Berg Duo- Singer, songwriter, popular teacher; rock/alternative guitar 
2:45-3:45 Studebaker John - Steamy, smokin' guitarist - blues, swamp, swing, boogie 
4:00-5:00 Brent Griffin & Pastime - Commanding jazz alto sax, with the group Pastime


Sunday, May 18 (subject to change):

11:30-12:30 Paulinho Garcia - Award winning Brazilian jazz 
12:45-1:45 Petra van Nuis & Andy Brown - Expressive vocal/guitar jazz duo play romantic tunes from a bygone era
2-2:45 'Flicker' Fashion Show - Fashion as art: Cutting edge fashions from Dominican University and local designers 
3-4 Frank Bang and Rick King- Chicago's own strompin', rockin' blues musicians

Riverside is a National Historic Landmark Village, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the Father of Landscape Architecture. Riverside is a unique and historic setting with expansive green parkways, curvilinear streets, remarkable architecture, and gas-lit street lanterns.
