Experience Southern Culture, Food, Music & Fun at Taste of Country USA Festival, Springfield TN, June 14th

 

"Downtown Springfield will be the place to be for people looking to experience southern culture, food, music and fun with their families,” said Margot Fosnes, president & chief economic development officer with the Robertson County Chamber of Commerce. “Each year, this event has grown and we are anticipating more than 10,000 visitors to enjoy this year’s event.”

 

 

Springfield, Tennessee, May 27, 2014 (McKenzieNewsService.com) - The Robertson County Chamber of Commerce will host the 2014 Taste of Country USA festival, sponsored by Electrolux, on June 14 on the Historic Court House Square in Springfield, TN. Gates are open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with free admission for the whole family.

 

Taste of Country USA offers festival goers a chance to enjoy all the things that make this corner of middle Tennessee unique.
Spend the day enjoying the antique car cruise-in, beer garden, live country music on the Court House Stage, family-friendly entertainment on the smaller Main Street Stage, a water-park themed kids’ country area, antiques, arts and craft vendors, and lots of wonderful festival food. 

 

If you get to Springfield early on Saturday morning, you can also enjoy the Taste of Country USA  5K Run/Walk sponsored by the Springfield Rotary Club starting at 7:30 am and the annual Yard Sale taking place over dozens of city blocks among the beautiful homes of the Springfield Historic District.

 

 

Throughout the day guests can enjoy two showcase competitions, the "Taste" and the "Talent" of Robertson County.

 

"The Talent of Robertson County" provides a showcase for budding country music stars to perform live on the Court House Stage and win a grand prize of $500 cash. The contestants have uploaded short video performances to the festival website to compete for fan votes through May 30th.  The top ten vote getters will perform beginning at 3:00 pm for a panel of judges. 

 

"The Taste of Robertson County” is a live cooking competition that will feature Electrolux cooking products, great local ingredients and chefs in three different categories competing for the title of top chef and great prizes. The competition divisions are junior chefs at 10:00 am, home chefs at 12:00 pm and professional chefs and caterers at 2:00 pm.  Electrolux of Springfield, the presenting sponsor, will be setting up four amazing cooking stations complete with pantries and mystery ingredient baskets that the chefs will use to create their "tastes" for judging.  Interested entrants can find a link to the competition application at www.tasteofcountryusa.com/food. Four spots are available in each division.  

 

You don’t have to cook to participate in this fun event. $10 Tasting Tickets are available in advance and on the day of the festival which entitle you to sample the chefs'  creations and cast a vote for the winners.  Cook’s Country Magazine Executive Food Editor, Bryan Roof, will be a special guest judge in the amateur and professional competitions, and he will be around all day, collecting heirloom recipes for possible publication.

 

"Wet and Wild Kids' Country" sponsored by Honeysuckle Hill Farms, will provide the youngsters a place to play and cool off from the summer heat as Main Street is transformed into a mini water park. A $5 admission allows kids to spend the whole day enjoying the wading pool, water slide, slip and slides, bounce house, water balloons and squirt guns. And everyone will get their own towel courtesy of the Robertson County Family YMCA.

 

For the adult palates, a special pre-festival event known as “Spirits of the South,” sponsored by Bath Fitter, will take place on Friday evening from 7:00 – 9:00 pm.  Enjoy the beauty of the Town Square at night and sample bourbons, wines, beers and other specialty spirits while partaking in an hors d’oeuvre buffet and listening to live music.
