Texas BBQ Champion, Junior Urias joins TV BBQ Pitmasters, June 4, Norco, CA

Norco, California, May, 30, 2016 - Texas BBQ Pitmaster champion Junior Urias joins celebrity BBQ chefs Big Moe Cason and Harry Soo as BBQ contestants at the Horse Town Brew n Que Festival at the George Ingalls Event Center on June 4, 2016 in Norco, CA .

 

The BBQ threesome are part of an anticipated 70 competition BBQ teams from California, Arizona and Nevada vying for $15,000 in cash,  prizes and most importantly, bragging rights.  Urias, Cason and Soo will also be part of a panel discussion at the June 3rd kick off reception that includes James Beard awardee, Clifton Lee Van On and noted BBQ competitor, Donna Fong. The festival, sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) and the California Barbeque Association (CBBQA), is one of the largest gatherings of professional barbeque teams in California. It will also be the first time Urias, Cason and Soo have competed against each other in California.
 
Season 2 winner of Fox Network television series Master Chef Junior, Nathan Odom, will serve as a guest judge for KIDZ QUE, a BBQ competition for youth under 15 years of age. Both beer and barbeque will be available to sample and attendees may cast a vote for their favorite craft beer company or barbecue team to determine the winner of the People’s Choice Awards. A rare California Certified BBQ Judging (CBJ) class is sold out.
 
Grammy nominated blues great, Ray Brooks and the Bluzmaster; Blues stylist, Big Papa and the TCB; country artists Tessie and the Calico Cats; crowd favorites, the Muddy Hooker Kings and toe stomping the Blue Henrys featuring chart topper, Redbone, add to the live entertainment and festival flavor. 
                                                                       
Cason, a multiple grand and reserve barbecue champion, has competed and won in 35 states. He has appeared as a judge and contestant on BBQ Pitmasters, and featured in the hit television series BBQ Pit Wars. His infectious smile and skills on the grill make him popular throughout the barbeque and food communities. "I am really looking forward to this. I had a blast last year and I am ready to come back," notes Cason.
 
Harry Soo of Slap Yo’ Daddy BBQ (SYD), is considered one of the world’s top BBQ competitors and instructors. A BBQ Pitmasters alum, SYD stunned the nation by defeating all the teams, including two BBQ World Champions, in the winner-take-all Rib Throwdown in Texas. His cooking classes have spawned a generation of culinary que-ers and chefs. A multiple California Team of the Year and international champion, Soo is currently in production for an upcoming television series.  
 
Junior Urias, owner and operator of Up In Smoke BBQ has been a BBQ master for decades, cooking in cook-offs across the country for more than 15 years. Junior was the 2014 BBQ Pitmasters Texas Champion, filmed in Florida and aired on the Destination America television network. Junior still holds the title of BBQ Pitmaster Texas Champion and has also won numerous Grand Champions and Reserved Grand Champions. He has appeared throughout the United Stated and in Europe.
 
Winning gold medals in culinary contests, guest lecturing at the University of Houston Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management, and heading up the menu and prestigious food programs provide only a hint of
Chef Clifton Lee Van On’s remarkable experiences.  Chef Lee Van On currently heads the culinary arts department at the Arts Institute, Inland Empire, in southern California. He has been recognized by the James Beard Foundation for his outstanding culinary skills.
