Composers Unmasked- South Shore Opera's Annual Fall Event, Chicago, IL

 

South Shore Opera Unmasks Rare Black Operas from Three Centuries

 

Chicago, Illinois, October 16, 2015 - South Shore Opera Company of Chicago presents its Annual Fall Event on Sunday, October 25th at the South Shore Cultural Center, 7059 South Shore Drive, Chicago, IL, with a preview of arias and duets from operas by three Black composers: L’amant Anonyme and Ernestine by Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges (18th century); Voodoo by Harry Lawrence Freeman (20th century); and Harriet Tubman: When I Crossed That Line to Freedom by Nkeiru Okoye (contemporary).


The works of these composers and the evening’s entertainment will be performed by TreDiva, a critically acclaimed trio comprised of sopranos Jonita Lattimore, Anisha McFarland, and Elizabeth Norman. These phenomenal women are classically trained and have taken that training and soared to a higher level. They thrill audiences with performances of opera, Broadway, Gospel, jazz, soul, spirituals, pop, and more. Their energetic and captivating performances can span anywhere from Mozart to Chaka Khan. Wherever they are performing is sure to be the hottest musical event of the season.
These highly talented women have performed in many prestigious venues in their hometown of Chicago, including Millennium Park and Symphony Center, as well as for various government officials, including the Governor, Mayor, and Secretary of State. Their performances have taken them to Carnegie Hall, The White House, The Kennedy Center, The Lyric Opera of Chicago, and in Italy, Paris, Vienna, Canada, Poland, Scotland, Israel, Costa Rica, across Africa, and many other very prestigious stages in the US and abroad. Standing ovations and encores are the norm for these fascinating singers.
