Memorial Ride & BBQ Cook-Off Honors Fallen Memorial Hermann Life Flight Crew, Hitchcock & Stafford, TX

 

This year the Texas Line of Duty Death Task Force will be honoring the crew of Hermann Life Flight 1; Captain John Pittman, Flight Nurse Lynn Ethridge, and Flight Paramedic Charles “Mac” Atteberry, all who died in the line of duty on  July 17, 1999. They will also be riding through Damon to honor fallen Fire Chief Hugh Ferguson.

Hitchcock, Texas, May 11, 2015 (McKenzieNewsService.com) - The Texas Line of Duty Death Task Force (LODD) is hosting the 6th Annual Texas Fallen Heroes Memorial Ride & BBQ Cook-Off, an escorted motorcycle ride as well as a BBQ cook-off on May 16, 2015 in honor of Texas fallen emergency service workers. This year they will be honoring the crew of Hermann Life Flight 1; Captain John Pittman, Flight Nurse Lynn Ethridge, and Flight Paramedic Charles “Mac” Atteberry, all who died in the line of duty on  July 17, 1999. They will also be riding through Damon to honor fallen Fire Chief Hugh Ferguson. 

 

The ride will begin at the Stafford Centre, 10505 Cash Rd, Stafford, TX.  Ride registration will be held from 8am-10am.  The wreath laying ceremony will take place at 10:00am and then kickstands up immediately after ceremony.  The ride will end at the Galveston County Fairgrounds in Hitchcock, TX.  Lunch will be served for all registered riders.  Bike games and a ride in bike show will be hosted by Blowout Biker Productions.

 

The BBQ cook-off, with entries for brisket, pork spare ribs, and chicken, will be held at Galveston County Fairgrounds at 10 Jack Brooks Park Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX. Move in is Friday, May 15 beginning at 10am.  Cook-Off is held Saturday, May 16.  The entry fee is $175. This year cook teams will be competing for $3,000 in payouts as well as trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each category.  “King of the Pits” will be crowned at the end of the day.  Also new this year is the optional Friday Night "Split the Pot Fajitas."  Money will be paid out to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in fajitas.
 
The Saturday festival activities include live entertainment, food, a children’s area, emergency services demonstrations and static displays of equipment, a fire muster, and other fun activities.  Gates open at noon; donation for entry is requested.
 
The Task Force is looking for ride & cook-off participants, organizations and agencies to showcase and demonstrate their agency’s services (search and rescue, fire prevention, EMS, military displays, law enforcement, etc.), sponsors, and volunteers (honor guard, pipes & drums, ride registration, general event volunteer, and others).  This event helps the Force to continue their mission of serving the families and departments of the fallen.
 
Admission: $35 to ride, $175, free for the festival.
