Living History, Bluegrass & BBQ highlight Art in the Park Festival, Maysville, GA

 

All weekend the Heritage Village will be transformed back to the 1800’s with Living History. Step back in time with tours of the Chapel and log cabins, watch folk art demonstrations and a blacksmith will be at his forge. Relive the 1860’s as Civil War Re-enactors stage Union and Confederate camps, drills and huge battles with cavalry, artillery and field hospital.

 

 

 
Maysville, Georgia, September 2, 2016 - Tumbling Waters Society is celebrating the 26th Art in the Park Festival at Hurricane Shoals Park (416 Hurricane Shoals Rd.) near Maysville in Jackson County. September 17th & 18th the Park comes to life with Bluegrass and Southern Gospel, many children’s activities and arts & crafts for adults. Grist Mill operating. The authentic 1800’s Heritage Village will stage living history with folk art demonstrations and two days of Civil War History – re-enactors will stage battles with cavalry & artillery. The Festival is open Saturday from 10 am - 6 pm and Sunday from 12:30 – 5:30 pm.
The Festival kicks off Saturday morning at 8:00 am with the 5K Mill Race. Register at
www.runnersfit.com/millrace. The Maysville and Jefferson entrances to Park will be closed from 7:15 to 9:00 am.
 
BlueBilly Grit again hosts the Tony & Ann Ianiario Memorial Bluegrass Festival during Art in the Park. In memory of Tony & Ann’s contribution to the bluegrass genre, a free concert in the Amphitheater will feature Hank, Pattie and the Current from North Carolina Saturday afternoon. Two days from 1-6 pm Bluegrass bands will entertain.  All weekend - Southern Gospel with Dugar & Friends will perform.
 
Craftsmen will be demonstrating their work and have hand -made items for sale: paintings, art, pottery, handcrafted wood, metal and glass and jewelry. The Kids Zone will have inflatables, face painting, ponies and puppet shows. Children’s Art from local elementary, middle and high schools will be displayed in Heritage Village Cross Roads School and Harrisburg Courthouse. The blue-ribbon winner of the high school art contest will be the design for the 2017 Art in the Park t-shirt.  Spirit of the River Miniature Golf Course with replicas of cabins offers visitors to play and learn the history of the Shoals putt by putt.
 
A wide variety of festival foods will be offered including fresh smoked BBQ at the TWS Concession Stand, fried cornbread, bowls of beans and cobbler at the Pethel Cabin below Grist Mill. Water wheel turning and will be grinding fresh -ground cornmeal for sale.

Hit & Miss Engines, Jail Wagon, handmade items from the 1800’s for sale and Chuck Wagon cooking.
 
Relive the 1860’s as Civil War Re-enactors stage Union and Confederate Camps with haversack and cooking demonstrations and drills. Volunteer Battalions, Artillery and Calvary will stage huge Civil War Battles at 2 pm both days.  There will be “Field Hospital demonstration” after the battles.  Rum Creek Sutlery and other sutlers, Period Apothecary will have military and civilian wares for sale. 1860’s Church Service in Chapel Sunday at 12:30.
 
The Grand Finale will be the hilarious Duck Dash as hundreds of little plastic ducks race down the Shoals.
 
No pets or alcohol are allowed. All monies raised are exclusively for improvements at the Park and the development of the Heritage Village.
