Since the events of 9/11 millions of American service men and women have endured the stress of combat.  As many as 1 in 5 have trouble readjusting to peace following combat. Often referred to as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD and occasionally PTS, combat stress has been around since the birth of war centuries ago.  The life challenges faced by Veterans suffering the effects of PTSD are alarming.  Suicide rates of 22 a day, homelessness, divorce and unemployment at double the national average are a few examples of how this problem effects their lives and our communities. 

 

Fortunately, new innovative approaches have begun to emerge.  One such program is the VALOR Clinic Foundation's Veterans Unstoppable program.  The program currently has two active phases and a third in development.  The three phases are, support groups, retreats and life skills application.

 

If you could, would you help these Veterans readjust?  You can help by playing in the Charity Golf Tournament at Fernwood Resort in East Stroudsburg, PA on May 31st (5785 Milford Road). Format is Standard Best of foursome scramble flighted with prizes for 1st, 2d and 3d. Team composition is 4 players. Special contests include: longest drive, closest to pin and a putting contest. Fun also awaits with mulligans, a live auction and raffles. This charity event includes a steak or chicken dinner, golf cart and 18 holes of golf.

 

Tournament fees are: $115 per person and $460 per foursome. You can find registration information under events on their website, www.valorclinic.org/golf-tournament or facebook page.
