Essex Junction, Vermont, June 15, 2015 - The 39th annual Vermont Quilt Festival (www.vqf.org) returns to the Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction, VT on Friday, June 26 through Sunday, June 28. New England’s largest and oldest quilt event continues to inspire visitors with eye-popping color, design, and intricate craftsmanship in the hundreds of quilts on display. Thousands of quilt enthusiasts from around the world arrive to enjoy several exhibits of new and antique quilts, lectures and classes presented by noted quilt artists, quilt appraisal services, free gallery talks, demos, and great shopping in the extensive Merchants Mall.

“Over the last third of a century, VQF has offered some of the best quilts, both antique and new, and this year is no exception,” said Richard L. Cleveland, founder of the Festival. An exhibit of antique quilts from two New York state collections highlights the variety of quilt styles of the 19th Century. Joe Cunningham, a San Francisco artist, curates an exhibit of his work and some of the antique quilts that have inspired him. In the New England Stitches exhibit, tradition and innovation are reflected in the quilts on view. The SewBatik Challenge features small quilts incorporating the theme of “Whimsy.” And the exhibit that always creates a buzz is the Contest exhibit of creations by quilters age 4 to 94.

Festivities begin Thursday evening, June 25 at 6:30pm, with the Awards Ceremony celebrating the contest winners. Following at 7:30pm is the always-festive Champagne and Chocolate Preview sponsored by Quilting Treasures of Rhode Island, where visitors are among the first to view the quilts and shop the bustling Merchants Mall. The Merchants Mall features more than 90 vendors with the best in quilting supplies, machines, gift items and more. Tickets are $12 at the door.

Show hours are Friday and Saturday 9am to 6pm; Sunday 9am to 3pm. Daily admission is $12, children under 14 free. The appraisal service for antique quilts is available Saturday 9am to 5pm; the fee is $45 per quilt. For more information, visit
www.vqf.org or call 802.872.0034.

Founded in 1977 as a one-day show of old and new quilts, The Vermont Quilt Festival, Inc. is now a four-day event recognized as New England’s largest and oldest quilt event and a Vermont Chamber of Commerce Time-Honored Event. The Festival has from its inception displayed quilts from private owners and from the collections of historical societies and museums and continues to offer a top-notch education program for hundreds of students. The Festival is a non-profit organization operated by a working Board of Directors and a small part-time staff.
