Von Heidecke Dance Center Announces Maria Tallchief

Von Heidecke’s Dance Center announces
the Maria Tallchief Scholarship, which is available to new students of the Dance
Center. The scholarship is made possible by an anonymous donor, and a
grant from the Brackthorn Foundation. New students interested in being
considered for the scholarship must make an appointment for a free evaluation at
the Dance Center, 1239 S.
Naper Boulevard, Naperville, IL.
President Obama's daughters appeared in this school’s production of The
Nutcracker, downtown at the Harris Theater in 2007 when President Obama was
still a Senator of Illinois. Gold medalist U.S. Olympic figure skater Evan
Lysecek attended this school, as well as Victoria Born of “Center Stage," and
Joffery principal dancer Joanna Wozniak.
Kenneth von Heidecke is founder and director of the Chicago Festival Ballet and
Von Heidecke’s Dance Center. He is the protege of legendary Prima Ballerina
Assoluta, Maria Tallchief, and is also a renowned choreographer for opera and
ballet companies around the world, having choreographed over 100 operas and 150
ballets. Most significantly, he was hand-chosen by legendary Prima Ballerina
Assoluta Maria Tallchief to appear in the 1975 world premiere of George
Balanchine's “Orfeo ed Euridice,” a ground-breaking moment in his career. Over
the years, Tallchief continued to coach von Heidecke in the Balanchine
repertoire and referred to him as her protégé.
