The Yale Whiffenpoofs to Perform in Phoenix, the World's Oldest and Best-Known Collegiate a Cappella Singing Group

 

The Whiffenpoofs' signature ballad (which is still sung at every concert) has been recorded by famous musicians like Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and Elvis Presley. The Whiffenpoofs perform more than 200 concerts each year in such venues such as Carnegie Hall, the White House, and the Lincoln Center.

Phoenix, Arizona, January 6, 2015 (McKenzieNewsService.com) - The Whiffenpoofs of Yale University will perform a public concert at Central United Methodist Church, 1875 North Central Avenue, Phoenix, AZ, on Friday, January 9 at 7:00pm. This concert represents the group's second stop on its 2015 Winter Tour between Denver, Colorado and Honolulu, Hawaii.
 
Each year, fourteen seniors are selected to be in the Whiffenpoofs, the world's oldest and best-known collegiate a cappella singing group. Founded in 1909, the all-male ensemble claims a number of distinguished alumni including Cole Porter, Rudy Vallee, and U.S. Senator Prescott Bush. The Whiffenpoofs' signature ballad (which is still sung at every concert) has been recorded by famous musicians like Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and Elvis Presley.
 
The Whiffenpoofs perform more than 200 concerts each year in such venues such as Carnegie Hall, the White House, and the Lincoln Center. They have also been featured on television shows such as "Glee," “The Sing Off,” “The West Wing,” and “Saturday Night Live.” This year, all fourteen Whiffs have taken the year off from school to travel the world and will perform for audiences on all six inhabited continents.
 
The Whiffenpoofs’ repertoire of jazz standards, classic ballads, traditional Yale songs, and recent hits continue to delight audiences all over the world. They look forward to sharing their musical excellence and professional showmanship with Phoenix residents this January 9th.
 
Admission: $20 General Admission, $15 Students & Seniors
