Worcester Chamber Music Society presents Summer Concert Series, A Quartet of Nations, July 8, 10, 15 and 17

Worcester, Massachusetts (April 28, 2014) - On July 8, 10, 15 and 17 the Worcester Chamber Music Society festival will present “A Quartet of Nations.”  Four inspired programs capture, through the intimacy of chamber music, the living essence of a country’s spiritual being, as reflected through the lens of musical genius: France, a world of joy, sensitivity and spiritual yearning as revealed by Rameau, Massenet, Satie, Messiaen, and Faure;  The Americas, wild and dynamic and ever full of exploration from jazz and rock, to tango, to extravagant romanticism as shown through the eyes of Hendrix, Piazolla, Amy Beach and Samuel Barber; Germany, whose soul vacillates from perfection of balance to agonized passion in the works of Bach, Mozart and Brahms; Finally to Russia, in a journey through the inner and outer landscapes of this vast land with Borodin, Scriabin and Tchaikovsky.

Hailed as a group with style, imagination and chops, the Worcester Chamber Music Society is a musical ensemble founded locally, performing locally, and intimately engaged with Worcester County audiences.  The Society seeks to share the rich tradition of chamber music with long-time followers and to introduce new audiences to the music through financially and geographically accessible concerts, outreach, and educational programs.

The Worcester Telegram and Gazette said, “This group has proven once again that it deserves the accolades and the devoted following it has already attracted. Balanced, intelligent and passionate, the performances can be challenging as well as soothing.”

The events take place at Clark University, Razzo Hall, 92 Downing Street, Worcester, at 8:00 pm (7:30 pm pre concert talk). The hall is air-conditioned and handicap accessible.
