Worcester Chamber Music Society Presents Musical Wunderkinds, September 18th and 20th, Grafton and Worcester

Worcester, Massachusetts, September 8, 2014 (McKenzieNewsService.com) - Worcester Chamber Music Society returns with 16 concerts throughout Worcester County.  Season 9 features three unique offerings: Main Stage Series, Café Concerts and Very Open Rehearsals (VOR). The Main Stage Series features a blend of chamber music gems and fantastic works rarely performed in this area. The Café Series offers lighter fare, and Very Open Rehearsals engage its audience in a unique educational experience

Wunderkind!
Thomas Keil Memorial Concert
Thursday, September 18, Grafton Congregational Church,
30 Grafton Common, Grafton: 7:30 PM
Saturday, September 20, First Baptist Church,
Gordon Hall, 111 Park Ave., Worcester: 7:30 PM

Violist Marcus Thompson joins WCMS musicians for a program of musical “Wunderkinds.” This concert explores three very different but equally prodigious musical talents.  The genius displayed by Mozart at a very early age is well known and is represented by the masterful and virtuosic Flute Quartet in D major.  Half a century later, the young Mendelssohn was crafting works in his teens, exemplified by the brilliant String Quintet in A major, that rivaled the mature masterpieces of Mozart and Beethoven in scope and complexity.  Perhaps less well known to contemporary audiences, Glazunov was labeled the “Russian Brahms” early in his career for his seemingly effortless ability to craft richly lyrical, romantic works such as his masterful String Quintet.

There will be a pre-concert talk 1/2 hr. before the concert. Tickets $27-$32, Student Rush $8 at the door with a WOO card. Children under 17 free admission when accompanied by an adult.  All venues are handicapped accessible. Double WOO points.
